The New York State Mathematics Resource Center is hosting a one-day (8:30 – 3:30) professional development opportunity in each region during Summer 2008.
Using different instructional strategies and protocols, participant teams will learn what constitutes a Professional Learning Community and how Professional Learning Communities operate for different purposes. Teams will then operate as PLCs for the remainder of the day. Teams will spend the rest of the morning looking at the multiple ways to monitor student progress followed with examining student work applied to their context (grade level band and topic). After lunch PLC teams will look at and discuss how Response to Intervention (RtI) is compatible with monitoring student progress. We monitor students’ progress in order to change our instructional practice if needed. Teams will examine a product driven instructional design, focusing on the use of differentiated instructional strategies to engage students in the learning process. Time will be given at the end of the day for teams to discuss how they will take this back to their schools or district.
The professional development session, materials, and two meals (breakfast and lunch) are provided at no cost. If you cannot attend your region’s session, you may register for another session outside your region.
