Purpose:
§ Provide updated information on the status of the New York State learning standards for mathematics (revisited) and English language arts and the State’s response to the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirement for multi-year testing in grades 3-8 for mathematics and English language arts.
§ Assist administrators and teachers in planning for these new initiatives at the district, school building and classroom levels. Participants will have an opportunity to fax questions to the State Education Department (SED) throughout the teleconference. Responses will be provided during the teleconference and posted to the website.
§ Facilitate regional discussions, which will focus on sharing strategies and points of view in regard to preparing systems for these changes. Guidance will be provided on how to stay connected to these initiatives at both a state and regional level.
