New York State Education Department (SED)
- The New York State Education Department (SED) website provides links to each of the offices under its governance. Important news items from the University of the State of New York (USNY) are posted periodically, along with a calendar of Statewide activities. This site provides easy connection to USNY resources for students, teachers, parents, school administrators, individuals with disabilities, licensed professionals, State residents, and others. A google search engine provides quick and easy access to important topics.
Elementary, Middle, Secondary and Continuing Education (EMSC)
- The Elementary, Middle, Secondary and Continuing Education (EMSC) website offers direct links to its offices, the Board of Regents, and the school report card site. This site, updated daily, provides recent and archived communications to the field regarding SED policy, speeches and presentations by the Deputy Commissioner, and a commemorative/holiday calendar. Links to curriculum and general education resources, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), funding opportunities, and other related items are included.
Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology
- The Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology website provides quick access to each of New York State’s seven learning standard areas. This site includes descriptions of the learning standards resource guides with core curriculum, news items, and links to related resources.
New York State Education Department’s Virtual Learning System (VLS)
- The New York State Education Department’s Virtual Learning System (VLS) presents the definitive set of New York State’s learning standards and their respective key ideas and performance indicators, as well as the alternate performance indicators for students with severe disabilities. VLS offers resources that classroom teachers can use to support preK-12 standards-based instruction, such as sample tasks and learning experiences, with an emphasis on mathematics and English language arts, particularly early literacy. Other teaching resources, including those from the State Library, Public Broadcasting Services, and Archives, are available.
State Assessment
- The State Assessment website includes links to specific content areas, schedules for upcoming State assessments, previously administered State tests, test samplers, and communications to the field regarding test administration.
Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID)
- The Mission of the Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) is to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities while ensuring that they receive the rights and protection to which they are entitled; assure appropriate continuity between the child and adult services systems; and provide the highest quality vocational rehabilitation and independent living services to all eligible persons as quickly as those services are required to enable them to work and live independent, self-directed lives.

- The Part 100 website provides information about general education and graduation requirements for elementary, secondary, and middle-level education. Links to regulatory language, questions/answers regarding policy, appropriate program offices, resource materials, and “hot topics” are included.
