NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT WEBSITES

New York State Education Department (SED) www.nysed.gov

The New York State Education Department website provides links to each of the offices under its governance. Important news items from the University of the State of New York (USNY) are posted periodically. A Google search engine provides quick and easy access to important topics.

Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology (CI&IT) www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai

The CI&IT website provides quick access to each of New York State’s seven learning standard areas, core curricula, resource guides, publications, the CI&IT E-Blast news and updates broadcast, and links to related resources.

Part 100 Regulations of the Commissioner of Education for EMSC Education www.emsc.nysed.gov/part100/opener.html

The Part 100 website provides current information about general education and graduation requirements for elementary, middle, and secondary education. Links to regulatory language, Q&A regarding policy, program offices and contacts, resource materials, and a “hot topics” briefing are included.

NYSED Virtual Learning System (VLS) www.nysvls.org The NYSED VLS presents the definitive set of New York State's learning standards, including the full text of the 28 standards and their respective key ideas and performance indicators, as well as the alternate performance indicators for students with severe disabilities. VLS offers lesson plans and tasks to support PreK-12 standards-based instruction, such as sample tasks and learning experiences. Other teaching resources from the State Library, Public Broadcasting Services, Archives, and Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) are also available.

Call for Expertise www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai/call.htm The New York State Education Department has issued a “Call for Expertise” to solicit teacher/educator interest in ongoing, State-level consulting work in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instructional technology. Upon completing the online survey, names are registered in a database, which SED staff will use to establish committees.

State Assessment (OSA) www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa The Office of State Assessment website includes links to specific content areas, schedules for upcoming State assessments, previously administered State tests, test samplers, and communications to the field regarding test administration.
