Grades 3-8 Testing
Recently, the Education Department issued revised core curriculum in English language arts and mathematics. The Core Curriculum in English Language Arts 2005 reflects grade-level performance indicators for each of the four learning standards approved by the Regents in 1996. Specificity has been enriched with the addition of literacy competencies for prekindergarten through grade 8; literacy competencies for grade 9-12 are under development. The Core Curriculum in Mathematics 2005 reflects a January 15, 2005 revision of the MST Learning Standard 3: Mathematics.
With the involvement of teacher/educators who represent the diversity of New York State students, the Department has developed the New York State Testing Program Grades 3-8 - providing schools, teachers, and parents with an additional measure by which to assess the progress students are making in achieving the learning standards. The core curricula for English language arts and mathematics are the basis upon which tests are developed. English language arts and mathematic tests will be administered each year, in January and March, respectively.
