Professional Development Modules:
Understanding the New York State Standard in Mathematics (Prekindergarten to Grade 8)
June 2005

This training will assist educators in building their understanding of the New York State Mathematics Standard and provide the necessary knowledge for future curriculum, instruction, and assessment development.

• Participants will define and describe the New York State mathematics process and content strands.
• Participants will explore the alignment between the New York State Standard and assessments by building an asset map for one mathematics problem and then analyzing the problem against the strands.
• Participants will discuss strategies for rolling out the new strands with teachers.
