• State Education Department issues a field memo to every teacher with up-to-date information on New York State Learning Standards and Grades 3-8 testing Program.

November 2004

• Mathematics Standards Committee Report to the Board of Regents. (11/04/04)

• State Education Department issues Proposed Mathematics Learning Standards (Standard 3: Content Strands including bands, Process Strands, and grade level performance indicators) for public comment.

• Mathematics Advisory Committee Meeting (Statewide Roll out of Proposed Mathematics Standards).  (11/19/04)

 November 2004 – February 2005

• State Education Department conducts regional forums with teachers, school administrators and community members to assist in the understanding and implementation of the Grade 3-8 testing program and newly proposed Mathematics Standards.

• DVD of October Teleconference distributed to each school building.
   

December 2004

•  Mathematics Standards Committee (MSC) Meeting. (12/9-10/04)

• State Education Department issues introductory ELA brochure on Grades 3-8 testing with a test sampler. (Update: SED posted Introduction to the Grades3-8 Testing Program in English Language Arts and Mathematics.) (2/05) A statewide mailing, of a hard copy and CD version, is underway to every public and non-public school building and BOCES. (3/05)

December 2004 – April 2005

• Regional Forums on Grade 3-8 Testing Program and the English Language Arts and Mathematics Grade-by-Grade Curricula.

As part of our coordinated communication strategy to inform educators and the public of our plans related to the Grade 3-8 Testing Program and the English Language Arts and Mathematics Grade-by-Grade Curricula, we are holding a series of regional forums that will be held from December 2004 through April 2005.  The following links will take you to the agenda, dates and locations for the forums.  This link will be updated as locations for the forums are identified. 

January 2005

• New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics presented to the Board of Regents for Action.  (Update: Board of Regents adopted the Mathematics Learning Standard 3 and Performance Indicators for Grades PreKindergarten through 8 (1/05)

• State Education Department issues a mathematics supplement for the introductory brochure on Grades 3-8 testing with a test sampler.  (Update: SED will post Mathematics Sample Items-Appendix B for the Introduction to the Grades 3-8 Testing Program in English Language Arts and Mathematics) (3/05) At the end of March, a statewide mailing of Appendix B and CD version, will be sent  to every public and non-public school building and BOCES. (3/05)

 March 2005

• Field Testing of Grades 3-8 Mathematics. (Revised: Field testing of Grades 3-8 Mathematics moved to May 2005.)

• State Education Department posts analysis of most commonly used commercial standards-based programs aligned to new Mathematics Standards. (Revised: SED will not be posting an analysis of most commonly used commercial standards-based programs, but rather will post a State developed Template for Analysis of Mathematics Programs/Series.)
   

April 2005

• Mathematics Advisory Committee Meeting (Statewide Rollout of Mathematics Standards). (4/12/05)

• State Education Department posts New York State Core Curriculum in Mathematics.
   

May 2005

• Field Testing of Grades 3-8 Mathematics. (5/23-27/05)

• Statewide administration Grades 4 and 8 Mathematics Assessments (based on existing Mathematics, Science, and Technology standards).

• State Education Department posts model local curriculum aligned to new Mathematics Standards. (Revised: SED will not  be posting model local curricum, but rather will post a field requestion Mathematics Toolkit of Curriculum Guidance Materials and Resources to assist in the implementation of Board of Regents approved Mathematics Learning Standard 3 and Performance Indicators for Grades PreKindergarten through 8.)

• State Education Department issues a detailed brochure with a complete parallel test form for each grade in Mathematics.
   

March 2006 

• Statewide administration of Grades 3-8 tests in Mathematics towards the beginning to middle of March.
