Grade 3-8 Testing Program
Field-Testing Information
updated February 3, 2006
This page provides the latest information for the 2005-2006 field tests in New York State elementary and intermediate schools, including two lists of schools (in alphabetical order by school name) with their respective field test strand and their required field test assignment, and the five-year field test schedule. The first list includes all public and charter schools that have enrollments in grades 3 - 8. The second list includes all non-public schools that have enrollments in grades 3 - 8. School principals will be receiving additional information on their building field test assignments and responsibilities. ELA field-testing letters will be issued in November 2005. Math field-testing letters will be issued in January 2006. ELA field tests are to be administered in January and math field tests are to be administered in March. A complete testing schedule for grades 3 - 8 is available at http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa/sched.html. Further information will be posted in regards to the administration of the elementary and intermediate field tests in science and social studies.
According to the Five-Year Field-Test Schedule for New York State Elementary and Intermediate School Level Tests Matrix, the assignments to field test strands for all schools will remain unchanged for the duration of five years (2005-2009). However, the field test assignments change from year to year as indicated in the Matrix.

UPDATED MATRIX INFORMATION - December 2004
According to the original field-test matrices, issued in October 2004, schools were assigned to administer a maximum of 2 ELA or math tests in 2005. However, not all schools will now be asked to administer two tests.
In order to reduce the number of field-tests that must be administered without compromising sample representativeness, the original sampling matrix has been reduced. We want to ensure that, in light of these changes, all schools are clear as to what their responsibility is for ELA and/or Math field-testing. For that reason all elementary and intermediate principals will soon receive a letter specifying their assignments and providing additional information.
The field testing for the new math tests for grade 3-8 will be held May 23-27, 2005. Additional detailed information will be sent to participating schools before that time.
